After studying chemistry in Munich, Germany and graduating, Roland did research in the US with Nobel Prize winner Prof. G. A. Olah. Afterwards, he advanced the development of modern wound-care products at Beiersdorf AG. Subsequently, he held differing positions at BODE Chemie GmbH, including as Director Research & Development, Director Marketing & Sales and finally almost five years as sole Managing Director. Roland got involved in the Committee for Industry and Research of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, and as member of the management board of the German Industrial Association for Hygiene and Surface Protection (IHO). Since his time as Managing Director, Roland has reflected over the question of how to ensure maximum performance in SMEs – with emphasis on an employee-related approach and the subject of women in leadership positions. Under his management, BODE Chemie GmbH was awarded the Helga Stödter Prize in 2012 for the exemplary implementation of mixed leadership.
When founding Knieler & Team GmbH in 2015, his focus clearly was on the team – in order to not only provide advice on strategy, marketing or authorisation, but to offer you a real added value by combining the entire expertise under one umbrella.
Since her studies of marine biology and toxicology, Jana has contributed her strong interest in the effects of chemical substances on the environment to many projects already. Within the scope of a doctoral fellowship of Schering AG she worked as Director of Studies responsible for ecotoxicological studies according to OECD Principles of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and assisted in the authorisation and risk assessment of drugs. Afterwards, she took on the position as Expert REACH at DSM Nutritional Products in Switzerland, where she was concerned with the authorisation of an own product range in compliance with the Chemicals Act. In parallel, she participated in the training as toxicological specialist of the German Society for Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology (DGPT).
Until she joined the team, Jana had been an independent consultant for five years. In this role, she provided advice on legal requirements and test strategies in compliance with REACH, CLP and BPR and prepared IUCLID dossiers, (eco)toxicological expert opinions and risk assessments, for example, for the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals and SGS Fresenius Chemical Services.

Gunnar began his career as export merchant in the Port of Hamburg, Germany. Afterwards, he studied wood sciences at the University of Hamburg. During his doctoral studies, he worked as expert for wood damages due to fungi at the Federal Research Centre for Forestry and Forest Products. Working for an EU project, he actively contributed to setting the course for the BPD PT 8 authorisation. After his graduation in biology, he was awarded a two-year Marie Curie research fellowship at the Imperial College London, UK.
In Baden-Württemberg, Germany he then headed the biological testing laboratory of a BASF subsidiary active in the wood preservative industry and made it ready for accreditation. He possesses significant experience in developing testing standards and was member of the German delegation to the CEN/TC 38 in Paris. He has known the European legislation on biocides from the very beginning.
Back in Hamburg, Gunnar was responsible for Regulatory Affairs Biocidal Products at BODE Chemie GmbH for eight years and represented the company at international level in differing external bodies.
Short reporting lines, quick agreements, direct communication and the team’s wealth of experience – all this makes his task so attractive to Gunnar.

Claudia studied musicology and literature in Hamburg, Germany and St. Petersburg, Russia. After her studies, Claudia was Product Manager at a Russian and then at an American food company. In Lebanon, she successfully established a company to market disinfectants in hospitals.
Back in Hamburg, Claudia took on various executive positions at BODE Chemie GmbH. One main topic of her work was to improve patient protection.
She then worked for over 4 years at Knieler & Team GmbH as Senior Expert Marketing before founding HyTrain GmbH. With her company Claudia James is a cooperating partner of Knieler & Team GmbH.
